The Secrets of Writing

Hints For A Research Paper On Ethics In The Workplace

Ethics in the workplace is a huge topic in many business study programs. This is due to the fact that the corporate workplace has expanded at a tremendous rate in the preceding decades, and, especially in Western countries, a large portion of the workforce is concerned with work ethics to ensure that workers get treated properly and so that they remain efficient. Due to this, and the future effects of work ethics on students, many are required to learn and conduct findings on the issue.

Before you begin writing your paper, you need to choose an area of work ethics that you will be writing your paper on. Think back to your course and when you were learning about the subject, and pick out the areas that most interested you.

It is best to work on a topic within work ethics that you are passionate about, since you will enjoy working on this more. If not, then you will not be sufficiently motivated enough to produce a good quality paper that will be graded highly.

Before you begin writing your paper, you need to conduct your findings that you can analyze and write about in your paper. You will need to make use of a variety of different tools to conduct good research to include in your paper.

A good way to start is to see the ethics policies of many large corporations. This will tell you about how serious work ethics are taken by the larger companies. You should look out for policies such as:

  • The company policy for holidays for workers
  • Company policy on how many hours an employee typically works, or is expected to
  • Company policy on harassment
  • How HR handles complaints
  • Company policies on rewarding their employee, usually there will be an employee benefits program
  • Whether or not a corporation offers its employee healthcare plans

These are just a few of the many things you should be looking out for.

Another avenue you can look up is the empirical research conducted on the topic. There are many studies done by academics on the issue to see how employees can work more efficiently, and certainly work ethics is a huge part of this. Empirical studies will usually be found business academic journals, or through your college’s business faculty website.

You can also include magazine and newspaper articles on the issue. For example, if there was controversy for a company mistreating an employee or employees and violating their own ethics code.

Once you have chosen your topic and conducted your findings, it will be time to start writing out your work. However, before you do that you need to make a plan detailing what will be written for each section.

The structure of this type of paper is slightly different to a typical essay you may have written during college. Below we detail what sections you need to include:

  • Introduction: This gives the reader an overview of the topic within work ethics you are writing about.
  • Literature Review: This brings the reader up to speed with the latest news headlines and studies conducted on the topic.
  • Methodology: This details the methods you will use to extract your results to analyze. You will also analyze your own method.
  • Results: An analysis of the results you achieve.
  • Conclusion: Summarize the key points of your results and what impact they will have.
